Suicide in the Workplace: Coping with Coworkers

No one expects to ever experience suicide in the workplace. Defined Sight shares their experience of coping with coworkers.

The word suicide was never too difficult to say or type until this week. I know others who experienced suicide with their families or friends, but not directly. This week, one of the members in management took his own life. He interviewed me for the current position I am in. I often consulted with him for specific questions. He also wore a referee shirt if a coworker and I took opposite stances. Processing the loss has been difficult. Two days in the office has felt like two weeks. Here’s how we are all trying to help each other. Continue reading

The Benefits Of Standing

The Benefits Of Standing

For over 11 years now, I have been sitting at an office desk. I never thought about the standing desk concept. In my mind, I thought I made up for not standing at work by running 4 miles a day. Did other strength training workouts. Or just got up and walked around when my Fitbit buzzed at me. Continue reading

The Year of Growth: Traveling, Personal, and Professional Development

It has been a little over a year since we made our big leap moving across the state, uprooting our family, abandoning a community of friends and trusted neighbors we had gotten to know so well in over 10 years, for the most part my career happiness. Job wise, I could not have made a better decision. I don’t think I would have survived 2 miscarriages, the loss of friends, family and our beloved dog this  past year in my former position. Remove the Clutter and Find Some Cash!

Remove the Clutter and Find Some Cash!

If there’s one thing in my life I get absolutely annoyed with, is clutter. I firmly believe that if you have not worn that shirt in your closet for 5 years, or are maybe saving those flared jeans from high school when they come back in style, you should probably donate them. Continue reading

Sight From Other Perspectives

Sight From Other Perspectives

As I drive 15mph in a 35mph zone, behind a van struggling to keep it between the lines, I remained calm and realized I was able to change my sight and see this situation from a different perspective. Continue reading

Don’t Make a Mistake and Stay: Leave a Job to Match Your Stage in Life

Don't make a mistake and stay

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Super lame question. It should be, “Where do you want to be at each stage in life?” Maybe if a question like that would have been posed to me, it wouldn’t have taken me so long to realize I needed to find a job for each stage in life and not the status I was pursuing. Don’t go through each mistake I made: Continue reading
